Madison Motley, LPC-Associate

I’m a therapist who understands what it’s like to be “neuro-spicy” in today’s world.

For years, my inner soundtrack was filled with frustration and had me constantly asking myself, “Why can’t I just get things done like everyone else?” Well, as it turned out, I had ADHD (and found out at 22 years old), which meant my brain was wired differently from everyone else. This diagnosis reframed that question into something kinder: “Oh, here’s how my brain actually works!” Naming it didn’t change who I am, but it changed how I care for and understand myself. That shift from self-criticism to informed compassion guides how I show up as a therapist.

Before Caladrius, I tutored college students with learning disabilities, taught therapeutic riding, and worked in a university career center. I watched brilliant people blossom when supports matched their wiring—when structure, pacing, and expectations finally fit. Those experiences taught me that accessibility isn’t extra; it’s essential.

My why is the heart of Caladrius: a place for renewal, not erasure. I’m committed to care that respects autonomy, makes room for capacity, and turns insight into small, sustainable steps.

The Story Behind the Name: Caladrius

At Caladrius Counseling & Consulting, our name is inspired by the legend of the Caladrius—a radiant, snow-white bird from ancient mythology known for its healing power and connection to light.

In stories, the Caladrius was said to draw out illness and carry it into the sky, flying toward the sun where it would be purified. In doing so, the bird became a symbol of hope, renewal, and transformation—a reminder that even deep pain can be lifted, carried, and transformed into something lighter.

We chose this name because we believe therapy holds a similar purpose. Like the Caladrius, counseling offers a chance to release what feels heavy and overwhelming, so you can rise toward clarity, strength, and self-trust. Healing is not about erasing who you are—it’s about discovering your ability to move forward in ways that honor your true self.

For our clients—especially neurodivergent young adults—this story carries a powerful message: you are not broken, and your struggles do not define your worth. Just as the Caladrius takes flight toward the sun, therapy can be your space to uncover hope, embrace your strengths, and step into a future that feels more authentic, balanced, and empowered
